- Commander Rules!
- Disclaimer: We are not saying fast mana is good/bad/or otherwise. We just thought this is an interesting topic, and might be fun to talk about.
- Permanent

- Sol Ring
- Mana Crypt
- Mana Vault
- Ancient Tomb
- Grim Monolith
- Carpet of Flowers (Is this as good in non cEDH?)
- Chrome Mox
- Mox Diamond
- Mox Amber
- Mox Opal
- There’s lots of temporary mana cards, often used in storm decks
-
- Lotus Petal
- Lion’s Eye Diamond
- Dark Ritual
- Desperate Ritual
- Temporary
- What is Fast Mana? Cards that can give you more mana than they cost, the turn you play them
- Land, Fellwar Stone, Mana Vault, Sylvan Library
- Land, Sol Ring, Mana Vault, Sensei’s Divining Top
- Are crazy starts like this bad?
- How often do starts like this happen?
- Do crazy starts happen like this all the time in cEDH? We don’t know, but maybe some folks out there can let us know?
- What’s the craziest start YOU’ve ever had?
- Fast Mana can enable some pretty crazy starts
- http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/list-multiplayer-edh-generals-by-tier/
- Is fast mana one of the things that separates EDH from cEDH? We aren’t cEDH experts, but looking at the tier list here, it sees a lot of play in cEDH decks:
- Is this fair, given that nearly every EDH deck runs Sol Ring?
- Most of the cards on this list are more than $50, some as much as $200+
-
- If Mana Crypt were less expensive, would this argument still be happening?
- I’ve seen some folks on Twitter/Reddit complaining about their opponents using fast mana, oftentimes Mana Crypt is specifically called out.
- Does the way your deck is built change the amount of fast mana that is “appropriate”? If you’re playing Bird Tribal, is it OK to power up your deck with a little extra juice?
- How much fast mana is too much?
- Example: Ryan has a morph deck, and it’s pretty derpy. That deck runs a lot of fast mana, just so it can be on a similar playing field as a lot of other decks Ryan plays against in our meta
- Zack talks about Emry here
- I don’t think running fast mana is good or bad, it’s just a thing decks can do. We play fast mana sometimes. Feel free to look at our stables:
- Ryan has a Gonti Deck, and it runs mana vault, but maybe that should just be Dark Ritual?
- Mana vault vs Dark Ritual
- Ryan: I think that in general the effect is pretty similar, but again fast mana ramps you for the current turn, whereas Ramp cards make subsequent turns of yours better.
- At least the social contract doesn’t frown on blowing up folks fast mana, like it does about destroying lands
- How does Fast mana compare to Ramp effects like Rampant Growth, Kodama’s Reach, Cultivate?
- Cards like Signets, Worn Powerstone, Fellwar Stone, etc
- Why are these cards less frowned upon?
- We run lots of “Slow Mana” in Commander, which essentially acts a lot like ramp
